I don’t really know how I should describe “me” when none of the description and definition-tools works. I am not Christian Jew nor Muslim, not or Buddhist, atheist, capitalist or communist, not a follower of any possible thinkable imaginable movement in any new or older age and not I don't fit into any possible, thinkable, imaginable frame of “ism”. What am I then? …Hungry? Well, that is what my body is from time to time. And in the same way that my car needs fuel every now and then. But since I live in my body “my house and the vehicle”, I experience its hunger and fullness completely differently. I experience living in my body, but I am not my body. One may say; “heeey…just say I am a painter… end of story” Yes, I paint and I love it, but that is what I do and not who I am. But a dear friend of mine calls me “painter man” and I like that anyway. Then again, are you a good painter or a lousy one? Sometimes I feel like a master of universe and sometimes much lesser good and the next moment the most horrible, incompetent one in the entire existence and then, up again in the clouds in the next moments of painting… that’s the meaning of my beingness, experiencing waves. For me painting is a kind of inner necessity with all its moments of pleasure and joy, despair and doubt, pushing and moving me forward, painting after painting trying to solve previous problems and discovering new ones in order to better understand the anatomy of the beauty. Is my work a kind of art or piece of trash? Both and neither, it depends of course on the one eye of the beholder and the viewer’s point of view and perspective, but what is art? Asking this question is like asking what love is. Everyone knows what love is but when they are asked, no one can come up with a proper answer.
Here is a selection of what I worked with in previous years: On commission from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, I designed the CD cover, CD label, poster, booklet and gift box of the project Beacon for Freedom of Expression, Norway's gift to the new library in Alexandria in 2003. The gift was presented in Alexandria by the Minister of Culture and Church Affairs, Valgerd Svarstad Haugland. I produced two sets of the gift; the second set was presented as a gift to the State Library in Brussels by Queen Sonja in 2003.I have written and illustrated four books, a novel and three illustrated books for children. Thank you very much for your time visiting these pages.
